For those of you who are on the member list of LAN'asplode, this is a heads up that the next LAN will be occuring on March 26th-28th.

Everyone with an account now has one invite, so feel free to invite another person along - on the condition that they're also as awesome as you are.

We will put up more details when we've organised more, but the date is now set in stone.

Wrapup
Thu, 8 Oct 09, 1:43:37 PM
Greetings!

Just a quick wrap up email from LAN'asplode on the weekend.

Firstly, thanks to Bendigo Party Hire for the tables, as usual.
Thanks to Atomic MPC Magazine and Intel for the cool Moore's Law TShirts. Intel doesn't know they've sponsored us, but I'm sure they don't care.

Congratulations to the following comp winners:
"HANDS UP IN THE AIR GAME NOT GIVING IN TO PEER PRESSURE" - Albert (although Phobos claims he didn't give in either). Both got an Intel shirt.
GRID Drift - 1st place Deadman, 2nd place Drewfus. Deadman won a cool little RC car.
HL2DM - 1st place Deadman, 2nd place Drewfus. Deadman won some coke and an intel shirt.
CSS GunGame - 1st place Wraith, who won a Nef Maverick Gun
Armagetron - 1st place Phobos, no idea what he won. It's missing from the list.

Lots of BF Pirates was played, and everyone enjoyed. Also a few other Large Organised Games, which were also enjoyed.

Then there were some smacktard games - Simo's list only specifies winrars for some of them, but regardless
Portal 'Still Alive' recitation thingy - Phobos
Dagger off - no idea.
Dress up as a pirate - I think it went to Wraith, who even coloured his face in with a texta.

Alas, my list of stuff doesn't have the rest of the comps and smacktard stuff on there. But it's not as if anyone is reading down to here anyway!

And lastly, the Most Playing Playa of the LAN award went to Drewfus, who was almost always playing games! He played in every comp, ever fun game, and some of the smacktard stuff. Bendigo LANs need more people like this.

If you have any comments/criticisms/etc, jump on to the Bendigo Gaming forums and leave us a note in the Feedback Thread

Thanks to everyone who helped out at the event - organisation was a bit lacking leading up due to various factors, so every bit of help at the event really is appreciated. Especially the select few that hang around to help packup afterwards!

Anyway, I have to go and play some Armagetron during this lecture, so it's time to shut up!

Asplode this weekend!
Mon, 28 Sep 09, 8:30:42 PM
Greetings!

It's now four days until LAN'asplode. We're relatively organised (The hall's booked. That's a good start, I suppose). We hope you're organised too. There's only 4 seats left on the site, so if you're wanting to go, register now. If you've already registered and are no longer planning on going, you should unregister.

Registrations and deregistrations will be open until Thursday evening at some point.

The cost for this event is a flat $20/person.

Doors will officially open at 5PM on Friday. If you come any earlier, you may be asked to help setup. The event will conclude sometime Sunday, most likely a bit earlier than usual.

You are reminded that the event runs for two nights - you are highly encouraged to stay for both, but you may come and go as you please.

Setup for this LAN will be tight - if you're free Friday afternoon, any help is appreciated. The plan at this stage is to begin set up around midday (Due to various important people working, coming up from Melbourne, being lazy etc). If you plan to come and help, letting us know beforehand would be awesome, but not essential.

A reminder again that there are rules - see the FAQ on the site to remind yourself of them if you're not familiar.

If possible, try to have any games that you might be interested in playing installed before the LAN, make sure your anti-virus is up to date and your computer clean, do a defrag and hash any files for DC++ (v0.750 is preferred!)

I'm led to believe that this is all I need to say, so see you there!

Oh hey everyone looking at this post.

Did you know LAN'asplode has an IRC channel where you can talk to us cool people? It's true!

Use XChat or the Firefox plugin ChatZilla. Both are free.

Connect to the server 'irc.gamesurge.net' (if you're feeling special, you can do this using '/server irc.gamesurge.net' in the main window thingy.

Then join #asplode ( /join #asplode )

Then talk. By typing stuff. And pressing enter. You can even '/nick your-name-here' and change your name!

Hey, that was simple, wasn't it? =D

Thu, 10 Sep 09, 2:17:05 PM
LAN`asplode v11 - Th' Savage Seafarin' Heartys o' th' Computer Generated Seas

Registrations for the next LAN'asplode are now open!
Ye best be pointin your browser to www.lanasplode.com, logging in, and picking a seat.

The usual RULES apply, and we ask that if you register, but then later realise you can't come, you be unregistering yourself. Ye be doing this in the same manner as when ye registered!

If ye scally wags be needing an invite, be heading over to yonder Bendigo Gaming and express a request for an invite to ye LAN of olde. We wont accept just anyone, but it's worth a try.

Details:
The 2nd to 4th o' th' month o' October
$20 Boarding Fee (no discounts for not staying the entire time!)
Setting sail from th' Trades Hall, Bendigo

Changes from previous events:

New award/prize - "Th' Most Playin' Playa" or "Gamer o' th' LAN" - A prize be awarded by th' Admins t' th' swabbie attendin' who we saw be playin' th' most games throughout th' LAN. Nay necessarily th' best gamer or th' winner o' th' most comps - th' swabbie who got into th' spirit o' LAN`asplode by gamin' an' NAY LEECHING!

Admins be nay longer contenders fer th' prize in a comp. We know last time some o' th' Admins managed t' keel haul away wi' most o' th' prizes so we`re changin' th' rules t' avast this from happenin'. This dasn't mean they's nay goin' t' play in th' comp - jus' th' Admins canna win th' prize. On you bilge sucking rats can! So get yerselves inter the comps and score some loot!

Introduction o' LOGs - Large Organised Games in contrast t' comps, jus' a big game t' get sea dogs an' land lubbers into t' play an' be havin' a good time!
Door Prize be aft! Too many swabbies leave after th' first tide, so we`ve brought 't aft t' encourage swabbies t' stay longer.
Smacktard Shield continues - Smacktard events be scheduled t' run befer major comps t' give swabbies somethin' t' do while we wait fer games t' copy/install etc.

Comps:

Teeworlds - This wee DM game replaces Soldat an' Baboviolent as a quick/fast/easy/wee/fun game t' kick off th' LAN. Check 't ou' online - http://www.teeworlds.com/

Armegatron - Addictive as hell game based on Tron jus' a wee bit. Somethin' a bit different an' a bit retro t' previous comps. Website - http://www.armagetronad.net/

Left4Dead 4v4 Versus - Ortin' ta be interestin' e'en fer them who haven`t played befer. Players alternate between th' Survivors an' th' Infected each round. Form yer own team or find some blaggards t' make up a team t' go fer th' booty!

GRID Drift Comp - Ere who`s played NFSU1/2 drift knows how crazy these games can get. 8 players on a track tryin' t' drift all at th' one time. Jus' reckon this game has a semblance o' realism so 'tis nay gunna be as easy as NFSU 1 or 2 but th' scores can end up somewhere in th' realm o' 20,000,000 fer a single drift...

Quake 3 Area or Warsow - LAN`asplode attendee Nyarlarthotep be goin' t' be runnin' either a Q3 or Warsow comp fer us. Jump in an' frag away.

P'raps there may be a few comps to be had! We be announcin' this closer to the sailing date.

LOGs (Large Organised Games)

RvBvG - Pirates Vikings Knights 2 - 3 teams all goin' fer th' win all at th' same time. Teams will rotate thru th' 3 types t' get a shot at each. As per previous RvB games teams be selected at random from all them who want t' play. `Tis free so ye can get 't beferhand as long as ye be havin' Steam an' at least one Source game from http://www.pvkii.com/

Battlefield: Pirates - A mod on th' classic Battlefield: 1942 that changes everythin' into sea dog mode! We`ll be lookin' t' run this a couple o' times o'er th' event t' make sure you laggard sea dogs an' land lubbers will get a good shot t' conquer th' computer generated seas.
Thar will also be a prize awarded t' th' most dastardly bastard o' th' computer generated seas - nay th' top scorin' player, th' best sea dog in th' game!
(The Admins may make this walk the plank, to make space for Battlefield:Pirates 2. The same, but BF2)

Th' Admins encourage other land lubbers t' organise/run a large game if they feel like 't. If ye`re runnin' a game o' let us know an' we`ll try an' get as many swabbies as we can into th' game fer maximum enjoyment.

We be having plenty o' server space for ye to be running yar servers, so don't be a land lover!

Th' Booty:

Thar be prizes fer all th' comps organised by th' Admins which can be viewed on th' tide so ye can be seein' what`s up fer grabs. Thar will o' course be th' Smacktard Sheild as well.

As this be a Seafarin' hearty-themed event thar will also be a prize fer th' best dressed scoundrel on th' tide th' be judged by th' Admins - so get yersef some gear an' try an' win some booty!

Thar be a few other things we're changing or implementing, but we be keeping that treasure buried until yonder LAN

SO WE BEST BE SEEIN YA THAR

LAN'asplode v11 is gonna respawn
Thu, 6 Aug 09, 5:47:47 PM
Avast! Ye land lubbers!

(See below to skip the prose and get to the important information)

It has been said many a time before, "A LAN that clashes with Respawn is a LAN that is surely going to perish.".

Knowin' full well the implications of this, when organisin' this upcomin' LAN we be making sure to eyeball Respawn's dates. "There is no Respawn on that weekend!" they cried, "Your LAN is safe!", they said. BUT ALAS! It has come to our attention that the scurvy dogs at Respawn had made a fatal mistake and Respawn has done be scheduled to dock on the previously mentioned dates for LAN'asplode! Respawn being the larger of the two (they have a fleet that would span the horizon compared to our own), and having a heavily booked hall as their venue, it was decided that LAN'asplode would be the one to change.

Let it be known that we be changin' the dates accordingly.

October 2-4 is when you should make yourself present at the hall.

Nothing else has changed. We're still gonna pretend International Talk Like a Pirate Day is on the Saturday of our event. AND YOU SHOULD STILL TALK LIKE A PIRATE ON SEPTEMBER 19TH REGARDLESS.

Just to reiterate...
LAN'asplode v11 has been moved to October 2-4.

Don't be left alone on the docks come October 2nd.

Keep in touch!
Mon, 15 Jun 09, 7:43:07 PM
Ahoy thar maties!

Seeing as there's no event these hols, we decided to set up an IRC channel to allow fellow scally wags can have a yarn about the LAN, or whatever.

So, how does one engage in this form of communication? I'm glad you asked.

Command forth your IRC client to:
/connect irc.gamesurge.net
/join #asplode

ChatZilla - a fully fledged IRC client, integrated as a FireFox plugin.
Mibbit - A web based chat thing. Click link. Click the "Server" link above the text boxes, put 'irc.gamesurge.net' in to here. Put a nick in. Channel is #asplode. Connect away.
mIRC - The most popular Windows GUI client. Free demo available. After 30 days, just wait the 90 seconds for the splash screen to disappear.

Go forth and connect! There's six of us in there now. Let us multiply.

Besides, it's been 3 months since we've seen most of you guys. It's gonna be another 3 months before the next event. If you don't come, we might forget who you are.

AND SPEAKING OF GAMESURGE IRC CHANNELS!
#bendigo was registered yesterday by our very own Nato. The aim of the channel is to get Bendigo gamers together in the channel, organise fun events, chat, etc etc. Who knows where it will lead. Join up and be a part of it's story.

And as an added bonus, we might be holding the next asplode on Sept 18-20th. Failing that, the weekend after. Failing that, who knows. Don't book it in yet, we need to book the hall. We just thought we'd let you know that we are thinking of you guys. A little. And only on days that don't end in 'y'. But no promises. There will be an asplode though. Mark my words, [boy|girl], mark my words.

Also ANOTHER AWESOME HEADS UP.
Next asplode, we'll try for a piratey theme. Seeing as it'll probably fall over Talk Like a Pirate Day. So get your piratey costumes together, and prepare to invade the hall!

Anyhoooo...
See you either in three months, or on IRC!

Greets to mah homies.

For those that have ever tried to organise an event of some form before, you'll realise that you need a venue. You know... having a gathering at never really works well. People tend to complain about being sucked out of the space-time continuum just for a . Or for any reason, really. Well, we have a venue. Just not for these holidays. 'cos they're booked from now until ages away. And we cbf'ed finding another hall.

So, what does this mean for you?

Yes, I'm sorry to be the bearer of (probably) bad news, but there shall not be a LAN'asplode these holidays.

Management sends it's deepest apologies for any emotional trauma caused by being deprived of your favourite admins for another unknown amount of unspecified time units.

So, until the next intra-dimensional sub-space communication hits you in the left eyeball, so long.
-THE ASPLODE ADMINZ LOLOLOL

PS: If this intra-dimensional sub space communication did not hit you in your left eyeball, we apologise. A recent encounter with an unknown race from far far away has left out guidance systems a little off until we return to the ISS for repairs.
